About Middleton Wood
Woodland History
Tree planting started in 1993. Before the first trees it was just a field, used for grazing and growing crops.
Many of the trees will grow to be grand mature trees for the children of today to enjoy in their retirement.
What has been done?
- pine wood planted
- deciduous wood planted
- car park and paths created
- rubbish removed
- fun family activities
* pine and deciduous trees are good for different wildlife
Who's Involved?
Middleton Wood is being developed by local people. The management team is made up of school teachers, Whitfield
and Fintry residents and Dundee City Council staff. If you would like to help or would like to come to an activity
to find out what happens, please contact the Countryside Ranger Service, telephone 01382 434000.
Many people go for walks around the wood and watch wildlife. Some people exercise their dogs. There are picnic
tables to stop with a snack. All the paths are well made and are accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs (although
some of the paths may be flooded after heavy rain).
Community Help
Local people have helped Middleton Wood for many years. The
new local Urban Ranger Service are now helping more and more
people become involved in the wood.
Fintry North Youth Project helped clean up this summer and got a
mountain of full bags. A big thank you and to the leaders.
